View and Respond/ Egypt and Mubarak's Wealth

View the ABC news report and one of the other two (Al Jazerra or CNN) which report about Mubarak and how much he is worth.   CBS and the other news stories report 2 very different numbers when they report Mubarak's worth.  What are the two numbers?  Why do you think the numbers are so different?   Is there bias here?  Why?  How does this connect to Rome and the overthrow of the Umayyads?

  1. I think that the ABC News is not biased because I think they did not calculate is total value plus his properties which can cost billions of dollars. The difference between CNN, al-Jazerra to ABC News is the way they calculate his total money. But maybe, Hosni Mubarak have put his money into ABC so ABC News may be corrupting.

This is connected to the falling of the Romans and Ummayyads because both of the civilizations shows sign of corruption just like the way the Egyptian government under Mubarak time.

  2. I think the ABC News is biased because there may be a mistake when they calculated the number. CNN said that Mubarak have 40-70 billion and Al Jazerra said Mubarak have 70billion dollars. Still, Mubarak can give the money to the ABC so that his money is show less so the ABC News may have corrupt. This connected to the Roman when the Umayyad rules because the Ummayyads have give money to some civilization and it show that Romans are corrupted.

  3. I think that the channels are both different because the channels have different numbers of amount. The ABC news says Mubarak have 2 billion USD and the CNN news says that Mubarack has up tp 70 billions USD, and that is a very large number from each other. This connects to the ummayyads because many people in egypt today are protesting on mubarak and the abbasids in the ummayad's empire are putting them down.

  4. I think there are 3 possible answers to this problem about ABC news.
1)Mubarak might have been bribed ABC to lower the amount that Mubarak have been stilling for 30 years. If it was this answer then yes it might have been biased.
2)The other possible answer is that ABC could have gotten the number wrong from a bank. There might be 1-5 billion in one account. He might of stashed it in his son or his wife.
    3) The last possible answer is that they might of not calculate the total number of his houses, his percentage in companies, his other bank accounts, his whole family, his other family members(such as uncle grandad, grandmother, brother, sister, cousins).

This is similar to the Romans and the Umayyads by the Egyptians are very poor and the nation is decaying. The Romans and the Umayyads is similar to the Egyptians by the government both want power and riches so tension is being build on the citizens, and Egypt is slowly collapsing.

  6. 1)The CNN report said that Mubarak have 70 billions dollars.
The ABC report said that Mubarak have 5 billions dollars.
2)I think the ABC different from the CNN because the CNN not plus all the money from bank account or the money from his son or wife.
3)I think the ABC not biased because they calculate wrong or not calculate all the money.
4)I think connect to the Umayyad and the Egyptian they have the sign of collapse.

  7. The two numbers are 40-70 billion, and ABC says 1-5 billion. It's an extremely huge difference between the amounts, I think it might be because they didn't calculated all the estates, properties and other things of Mubarak. Another case might be that he doesn't just leave his money in his own account but also his son, or his relatives. It might have been biased if he has something to do with ABC news, bribing them or the like.

This has a small connection to Rome and the overthrow of the Umayyads because of the *corruption of the government, lacking responsibility or not doing what it's suppose to do, leading it to a bad end.

  8. ABC News reported that Mubarak had 1-5 billion dollars, but Al Jazerra estimated that Mubarak had up to 70 billion dollars. I think the numbers are very different because maybe the people who calculated the money left some money off or did something wrong, or the other reason is that maybe Mubarak payed money to ABC News to lower the amount of money he has so people wouldn't suspect him. I think the information between the videos are kind of biased because they are not the same.

I think this connects to Rome and the overthrow of the Umayyads because they didn't focus on what they were suppose to do which lead to chaos.

  9. CNN reported that Mubarak had 40-70 billion dollars, and ABC News said 1-5 billion dollars. I think the numbers are very different because maybe Mubarak paid money to the ABC News to lower the amount of money he has, or maybe the people, who calculated the money did something wrong. I think the information of the three videos are biased because they are not exactly the same.

I think this connects to Rome and the overthrow of the Umayyads because they didn't have any responsibilities to the government, and that selfish action lead to chaos.

  10. 1) The first problem is the ABC said that Mubarak has 5 billion dollars and the CNN said that Mubarak has 40-70 billion dollars, and these number is a really big different. And the problem that both channels have taken is the calculation. The calculation of each channel is in different ways, and that's why they have a big difference between 2 results. And the second thing that may happen is Mubarak has paid for someone in ABC to low his money down because he doesn't want anybody to know lots about his money, and the world may ask him lots of questions, and he thinks that it's not good for him. Besides that, the taxes are also really important. If the more money he gets, the more he has to pay for the text. And that's maybe 1 more reason that he trying to hide his money
    2) This has a connection to Rome and the overthrow of the Umayyad because the government didn't really focus on what they suppose to control, what they suppose to do, and what they suppose to lead for the people in the country. And it have a really big effective to corruption.

  11. ABC reported that Mubarak had 1-5 billion dollars. While CNN and Al Jazerra reported that he had up to 70 billion dollars. That's a huge different. I think ABC, Al Jazerra and CNN have a different way to calculate the moneys. The other chances are ABC is pay to much attention to Mubarak's properties and calculate the number careless. Also, maybe ABC is one of Mubarak's "property". And the last possible is ABC forgot some zeros behind the number =]]
This connected to Rome and the overthrow of the Ummayyads because they didn't rule the Empire or Country wisely and didn't have any responsibilities. Plus, they are still dreaming about the wealthiness and power and all of that fancy stop. At a result, these things have lead Rome and Umayyads to chaos and courruption.

  12. You can look at this problem under two perspective because the difference between 2 numbers is way too big to be said that it was mistaken. 40-70 billion dollars and 1-5 billion dollars. Before I said anything, in my opinion, I think these numbers are all estimations.

    1) ABC News

    - Mubarak bribed ABC News to lower the amount of money he had. if that is the case then ABC News is corrupting.

    - But if we look at this problem in another way, that ABC News did mention that it is in his bank account, probably, they didn't calculate any of his other bank accounts, his percentage in companies, his house, stocks that he own and also how much his family make.

-It could also be different ow their reporters interact with information. Maybe their source of informations is not accurate.

    2) Al Jazerra or CNN
    - As shown one the beginning of the video, CNN mentioned that it is about Mubarak's FAMILY fortune. FAMILY, that mean his entire family, wife, son, and he himself. So probably the number 40-70 billion came from to total of his family's fortune.

    - It could also be that CNN and Al Jazerra put another zero next to the number to exaggerate the story, to caught citizens minds and eyes on their news.

  13. CNN told that Mubarak had 40-70 billion dollars, while ABC and Al Jazerra said that Mubarak had 1-5 billion dollars. These two number are really different and i think that some of them is calculate wrong.
This connected to Rome and the overthrow of Umayyads because they didn't rule the their empire. And i think this made the empire corruption after the golden age and a large amount of money came in.

  14. The ABC reported that Mubarak has 1-5 billion dollars. While the Al Jazerra said that he has up to 40-70 billion dollars. There's a difference between these two amount of money because I think each news have different perspective and a different way of calculate money. One of the two news' answer could be incorrect. There's a little bias here because they try to convince the people that their informations are correct. This connect to Rome: People didn't really follow the rules and they have mistakes with brought their country to decline.

  15. Well, the ABC reported that Mubarak has 1 to 5 Billions Dollars, while Al Jazerra and the CNN assumed that Mubarak has 40 to 70 Billions Dollars. As you see, that is a big difference! I personally think that the ABC tried to make the situation less negative by lying about Mubarak money and possessions!

This has a BIG connection to the overthrow of the Umayyad and the Rome because they are falling apart, collapsing, lack of leadership which led to chaos…
